Break Free

One of my besties (yes, Raj, I'm allowed as many as I want!) just told me that he saw someone die today. He was at the Sepang MotoGP race and there was a fatal accident. Not surprisingly, my bestie is pretty shaken.

I'm not sure how I would react if I was in his position. There would be a part of me that would expect him to get up and wave at the cheering crowd; all a part of the performance. A sense of disbelief, perhaps, that life can just be over in the blink of an eye. A young, promising life, no less.

It could be me. It could be my loved ones. Wrong place, wrong time, and things can be so completely out of our control. You can do everything right and still end up in the wrong situation.

Debris on the road. A drunk driver. Swerving to avoid a cat. Walking, tripping, falling, and breaking your skull. A heart attack while you sleep. Trapped in a fire at the office.

Life is too fragile to be taken for granted. If today is your last day alive, how would you spend it?

R.I.P. Marco Simoncelli.
