Superpower

My granny has this anecdote she proudly tells anyone that would listen. We have a language barrier, but after her numerous retellings, I've picked up enough over the years to get the gist of it.

On my first birthday, with a full head of hair (jokes; I had no hair), I learned how to walk. Before that, I've never even tried standing, so obviously, it was surprising that I chose to stand AND walk on my special day. Even the cake and teddy bear were bigger than me.

Okay, it's much better when my granny tells it. Her face lights up because she gets excited when she tells the story and she makes me sound like Baby Jesus or something.

Maybe it's not even that special. Maybe tonnes of babies learn to stand and walk on their birthdays. Afterall, my granny thinks I was really special for refusing to eat cheap rice and knowing how to take fish bones out from my mouth when she accidentally fed them to me.

But yeah, my granny has always made me feel like it was something very special. So sometimes, when I fall, I remind myself that I would stand and walk again when the time is right.
