The xx - Heart Skipped A Beat

I have a confession: sometimes when I listen to certain songs, I'll imagine it to play in the background of some scenario featuring me, sort of like the soundtrack to my life.

During my teenage years, I was convinced that I would end up with a poet, musician, writer, or artist of some sort, and we'd be really poor and I would have to work really hard to support us. We'd live in a dinky little apartment with poor lighting and dodgy neighbours. We would wander the busy city at night, talking to the free, lost ones like us. We'd be friends with gangsters and tourists. We'd dance to the silence of the night.

Lately, listening to music by The xx and Miike Snow, I'm brought back to those 'memories', or fantasies if you will, though fantasies are usually about a better version of what your life can be, instead of involving some sordid affair that takes you down the 'wrong' road. I know, I'm a ball of weird.

But anyway, here's one from The xx; see if it affects you the same way:

Please don't say we're done
When I'm not finished
I could give you so much
Make you feel, like never before
Welcome, they said welcome to the floor

It's been a while
And you've found someone better
But I've been waiting too long to give this up
The more I see, I understand
But sometimes, I still need you

Sometimes, I still need you
Sometimes, I still need you
Sometimes, I still need you
Sometimes, I still need you
Sometimes, I still need you
Sometimes, I still need you
Sometimes, I still need you

I was struggling to get in
Left waiting outside your door
I was sure
You'd give me more

No need to come to me
When I can make it all the way to you
You made it clear
You weren't near
Near enough for me

Heart skipped a beat
And when I caught it you were out of reach
But I'm sure, I'm sure
You've heard if before
